I was burned out. A mid-career break brought me back to life.
For years, I suffered from the symptoms described in this article, ”Hidden Signs of Burnout You May Be Missing.” Worst were the physical pain, the dried-up well of fresh ideas, and the feeling I was always failing. I ignored it all -- until I couldn't anymore. So in late 2017, I quit the high-powered job I'd loved at Apple. I leaped off the corporate treadmill.
The mid-career break brought me alive again. I reconnected with my wife and son; read hundreds of books; got in shape; slept; took creative writing classes; and volunteered at my local food bank and underserved schools. This, I learned, is what truly matters to me: family, community, health, creativity, human connection, and lifelong learning.
My executive coach expertly guided me through this journey. Along the way, I discovered something that surprised me: I wanted to help others discover the best versions of themselves! And I was brave enough to leap again.
So now I, too, am a coach.
I'm so grateful for my clients and for the Co-Active coaching methods I'm learning.
